Everything was going great for Barack Obama until about 9:04 on the night of Oct. 3, when Mitt Romney startled everybody by refusing to live up to his caricature as The Worst Candidate Ever.
Romneyâs late-game comeback â" an unexpected assertion of presidential competence in front of 67 million viewers â" robbed Obama of his momentum and forced the presidentâs team to make a subtle yet significant change to their closing argument in the critical last two weeks of the 2012 campaign.

Obamaâs Chicago-based brain trust had intended to highlight four years of âsolid, steady progressâ in the final days of the race, several Democrats told POLITICO, with a healthy dose of hammering Romney â" a strategy that had given Obama a lead going into that fateful first debate.
Instead the pressure is now on Obama to prove himself, and oh-so-late in the game. That led his campaign on Tuesday to release a detailed, bullet-point plan for his second term â" a formal agenda his team long resisted despite appeals from the likes of Bill Clinton, Nancy Pelosi and James Carville and army of basic-cable liberals who said the president needed to spend less time cutting down Romney and more time elevating himself.
âHad to do it ⦠Itâs all about earning peopleâs votes,â emailed a Democrat close to the campaign when the plan was unveiled hours after the third and final presidential debate in Bacon Raton, Fla.

Obama will keep slamming Romney as the campaign comes to an end. Drawing âthe contrastâ as Obamaâs team calls it, is still the campaignâs engine.
Obama officials publicly claim the plan was in the works all along and doesnât represent a major change. But many Democrats and observers see the Tuesday messaging switch as proof Obama leaned too heavily for too long on a negative âHit Mittâ strategy, at the expense of a sustained push to convince skeptical voters the president deserves another four years.

âThe Obama organization did the single best job of destroying a candidate I have ever seen in my career, from May to September,â said pollster Peter Brown, who conducts the Quinnipiac University poll of battleground states.
âBut that all went out the window when Romney showed people that the caricature of him as a clown was false. ⦠Now heâs got to make the case for himself. If he was ahead now, my guess is he wouldnât have taken the chance of putting all of this out there.â
Question by arrgh blarney it be me!: Why did Obama say Iran was a "tiny country" and posed "no serious threat", and then he changed his mind? He also said Iran's nuclear program to destroy Israel is simply a reaction to Bush. He said too that Iran is an enemy of al Qaeda. Then why does al Qaeda function from within Iran? He said he would sit down with Iran to talk. Did he already do that when he sat down in secret with Iranian Hezbollah agent Qazwini in June? What did they say in private? Best answer for Why did Obama say Iran was a "tiny country" and posed "no serious threat", and then he changed his mind?:
Answer by sekwer
Because Iran poses no threat to people like Obama. He let it slip.

Just another of the numerous list of the "flip flops" or pandering by the 'great' Obama Vote McCain in 08 DavidH: "If he sat down in secret with them why do you know about it?" I would imagine the State Dept would have an issue with that, since Obama is JUST a JUNIOR Senator and is NOT authorized by the State Dept. to hold such "secret" meetings representing our country. Even Pelosi with her towel on her head FAILED with Syria.

Because the man has no foreign relations experience. You should be ready over the next few months for a ton of changes coming from this America-hater as he keeps his finger in the air trying to detect which way the wind is blowing.

The more Obama talks the more he puts his foot in his mouth. He is for hope and change. He changes his mind and hopes the voters don't notice.

Let's see the exact quotes you are talking about. Somehow I don't trust your paraphrasing. "He said he would sit down with Iran to talk. " Looks like your boy Bush is doing the same: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7509278.stm "Did he already do that when he sat down in secret with Iranian Hezbollah agent Qazwini in June?" If he sat down in secret with them why do you know about it? Unless you are an Obama campaign insider it doesn't sound like he was trying to keep it secret.

I take no sides, but in defense of Obama Iran and Al-Qaeda hate each other. Al-Qaeda are based on Sunni muslims while Iran is majority Shiite muslims. Al-Qaeda isn't even in Iran, but they are in Pakistan.
Answer by Blaze
He changed his mind because iran showed all their rockets. And al qaeda would never be in iran because of religious reasons. So iran and al qaeda are worst enemies. Obama wants more carrots and and the othere senator wants more sticks. The other senator wants there to be no threat for israel and he wants war with iran. To obama iran and israel are eaqual and he wants to talk.

They probably had a family reunion. Ahmadinejad hates Jews, wants to dump them into the ocean, and denies the Holocaust. He's the biggest anti-semite to come down the pike since Hitler. He just wants to work with Obama to destroy Israel and give it to the Palestinians.
