MADISON, Wis. (AP) â€" Hunters have reported killing four wolves during the opening 24 hours of Wisconsin's first organized wolf hunt.
According to the state Department of Natural Resources, hunters reported taking one wolf in the far northwestern management zone, one wolf in the far northeastern zone, one wolf in the mid-northwestern zone and one wolf in the central zone. Hunters haven't reported killing any wolves in the mid-northeastern zone or the southern zone.
The hunt opened Monday and is scheduled to run through February, although it could end sooner in management zones where hunters meet zone-specific kill quotas.
The DNR has set the overall statewide quota at 116 wolves.

Ayn Rand would be proud. "Mike D'Orazi of the Alameda Fire Department said that, due to 2009 budget cuts, his crews lacked the training and gear to enter the water. And a Coast Guard boat couldn't access the area because the water was too shallow." I wonder what "liberal" decided to make those budget cuts? "The fact that they could stand there and watch him drown regardless of policy, says alot about them." How much swimming have you done? Bringing somebody who wants to be rescued back to shore isn't easy.
