In 2004, the Dover school board ordered science teachers to read a statement to high school biology students suggesting th at there is an alternative to Darwin's theory of evolution called intelligent design--the idea that life is too complex to have evolved naturally and therefore must have been designed by an intelligent agent. The teachers refused to comply. Later, parents opposed to intelligent design filed a lawsuit in federal court accusing the school board of violating the constitutional separation of church and state. Family members of a man shot and wounded in Minnesota's deadliest workplace shooting say he has died of his injuries.
The family of Eric Rivers said in a statement Thursday that he passed away at Hennepin County Medical Center on Wednesday night. The death toll from the shooting at Accent Signage Systems on Sept. 27 stands at six, not including the shooter who police say took his own life.
Rivers was one of three people wounded in the shooting. He had been hospitalized in critical condition since the attack.
Gunman Andrew Engeldinger had just been fired from the Minneapolis company for lateness and poor performance when he pulled out a gun and launched his attack.
