MIAMI (AP) â€" American Airlines says a bird got caught in the engine of a Chicago-to-Miami flight but that the passenger jet landed safely.

Airline spokesman Matt Miller said late Thursday that the American flight "took a bird strike just prior to landing" at Miami International Airport.

He said an emergency landing was declared on Flight 1388 from Chicago O'Hare International Airport as a precaution and that the Boeing 737 landed safely Thursday evening. The flight had 145 people on board.

In 2009, Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger safely landed US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson River in New York after striking a flock of geese.

Question by Jedi Master AJ: Someone said "this is the first time I have been proud of my country" Does this happen? As a minority, I can empathize with the statement. I am a veteran who served during the first gulf war, I am educated and a tax payer. I have rarely been proud of America because of some of the "elitist" practices we have in the world, and how some groups act in an "elitist" manner. Truthfully, Have we as a nation, always been proud of everything America has done or stood for? Best answer for Someone said "this is the first time I have been proud of my country" Does this happen?:

Answer by Andy S
I have always been proud to be an American. I may not approve of some things our government is doing, but I'm still proud to be an American.

In general I have always been proud of my country but there are lots of things about this countries history that disturbs me greatly.

You will get a bunch of posts from people who find American pride poems and they will cut and paste them here. Very few people will admit to anything that will support Michelle Obama. Hell, even Laura Bush understood what Michelle meant. People are reaching for crap against the Obama's because they don't want a black guy in office. Period.

Michelle was proud of her country after her husband was winning states, most Americans are proud of their country from the time they are children, is that really an educated woman's statement,

I am not proud of everything that happens mostly because of the politicians. I am, and will remain, very proud to be an American! I also believe that we live in the greatest nation in the world. I am not a rich person either. I support our troops 100% and believe that every US citizen should also support our troops. My question would be, why if anyone is not proud of this country would they choose to remain here? Why if anyone does not love the US choose to stay here? I'm not trying to be ugly. I just can't understand anyone who says they are not proud to be an American. To you, thank you for serving in our great military! I have some friends that served during the Gulf War too.

Yes. I don't always agree with the decisions that the government makes, but I also acknowledge that they are making decisions that effect more than just me and that they usually have more information than I do (classified security stuff). To say "everything" is a bit unrealistic, but for the most part, yes. There is an elitist percentage, but so doesn't every other country currently and throughout the ages. Probably always will be. Most of us just do our jobs, pay our mortgage, and try to raise our kids the best we can. Our country gets a bad rap for a lot of stuff, but we are still considered the place to be. How many Mexicans come over the borders legally and illegally because they feel they can have a better chance here? Our govt isn't perfect, and they make mistakes and sometimes the wrong people get elected to the wro ng office - but our system has checks and balances. It isn't a dictatorship. We the people, have a voice. We don't always agree with each other, and probably we don't always feel we are being heard - doesn't make it true. Yes I'm lucky to have been born here.

Then in what country would you be most proud of their entire history and proud to be a citizen?

Answer by Rosemarie K
Ask this question to the politicians in Washington, then come back later and I will answer.

I sympathize with this dilemma, because sometimes you need some exposure to the "outside" world to come to a more objective opinion. I would say, one has to differentiate between blind and silly chauvinism, which does not allow for any negative, however objective, judgment about America, its superiority complex, its bully-ism, its "America before anything else" elitism and its one-sided and often abusive politics. And then so me really strange and objectionable political statements uttered by the very bitter wife of a candidate, who claims to be a unifier and is in fact a divisive element in our political field. Healthy criticism of politics is the duty of every serious citizen.

NO, but no country is perfect. It isn't that the statement is wrong... its that its wrong coming from her lips. She is a Harvard graduate. She had all of the best growing up... she is a lawyer and has had always had extremely great jobs and a safe place to live. She has 2 children that she can do with as she pleases because our country doesn't control her actions. She herself as a woman can earn those high degrees and manage men in her career, the list goes on and on... and none of those things in her past made her proud to live here? In most any other country in the world, you know she never would have accomplished what she did.

This country was founded with an ethic to allow dissent. Expecting people to walk in lockstep and watch every word they say was not the point. It is fundamentally American to be a dissenter and to exercise free speech. It's wrong for her to be attacked, especially when (hello) more people than ever voted in this primary season and got involved in politics for the first time. It is completely appropriate to say "I've never felt this proud."
