First Thoughts: Marginal change - NBCNews.com (blog) [ournewsa.blogspot.com]
Question by EVIL_LAUGH: What is a "day" in the eyes of God? Not trolling here. Not bashing Christianity or Christians in general either. I've discussed this numerous times with friends and associates, from the deeply religious to the most staunch atheists.... Here goes! So God created the universe in 6 days and rested on the 7th, is that right? A literal interpretation would say that the universe took 6 days to make, and since its creation, other than human advancements and influence on the planet, the universe has stayed relatively the same. A more liberal interpretation would be that a "day" in the eyes of God is not the same thing as we humans know it. It could be a year, an instant, a millenium, etc. (most likely a period of time we could not fathom, right?) Ok, but if no one created God, and God has been there since the beginning and will be there at the end, is everlasting and unaffected by time, then what is a day to God? and Why did he need 6 of them to create the universe? Or is it that "6 days" is something that humans attached to the story to humanize God? whiter than snow - So if that is a day to God (as a measurement of time), and yet a day is still morning to evening, does that mean that God has his own night and day independent from us? If so, did he create night and day for himself as well? Frizby - i understand the concept that our time did not begin until our "creation," but take "time" out of the picture, now its just night and day, why still 6 of them? Why not all at once? Or is it that after the First Day, that night and day now exist that God's actions are now contained with the concept of the 6 days? And had God not created light, but still existence, would it not have taken any "days" or time and instead happened instantly? Best answer for What is a "day" in the eyes of God?:

"Day" can be interpreted as a 24 hour period of time as we usually know it, or as a general period of time with no specific length. For example: "In my grandfather's day" . . . does that mean grandpa lived only 24 hours? Of course not; we don't know how long he lived, however, only that he had a period of time when he was alive.

In Genesis it is clear that a day goes from evening and morning; time is for us, months , days and years set by the sun and moon Time is in God
Answer by Atheist Geek
Even the Bible says that god's vision of time is not like ours. A day could well be a couple billion years to us.
Answer by Frankinsense
. The "Evening & Morning" as described in the Creation story is always 24 hours. .

It means anything God wants it to mean. All the rest is what men have made it mean. Words are human means of communicating. Stories made up around a campfire and in the temples of Babylon thousands of years ago.

In the old days numbers held significant value as "holy" things. The number 1 was completeness. The number 3 was for emphasis. The number 6 was to denote mans imperfection or imperfect nature. The number 7 was representative of Holiness, Heavenly perfection, etc. The number 12 also was important The number 40 was to denote a time of spiritual reflection, testing, etc. (i.e, 40x3=120), Christ was tested for 40 days, the Jews wandered for 40 years, it rained for 40 days, etc. Numbers were considered sacred. And as God and Heaven do not "reside" in this Universe, a "day" is or can be whatever God requires it for his own needs, meaning the number of days or years in God's "year" is dependent on what God needs it to represent to us.

Lets look at the situation as if it is fact that God Created the universe and the earth in 6 days and how it can be translated for us to understand.. The day would still be a 24 hour day because that is what a day is to us.. God Created everything within the physical dimension in real time even though real time for us had not began yet.. Therefore 24 hours was the elapsed time taken that's why our days lasts for 24 hours now, it was not the other way around where a day had passed by when God was Creating.. The 24 hours was the time in real time that passed away, this is why God made the earths cycle rotate for 24 hours each cycle because that is the given length of time that God saw as good.. God saw it as good because that is the account "the way" in order for existence to flow as God intended.. Now how God achieved such things in such a short space of time "24 hours" a day each time is easy to explain, its just like when a car is made the speedometer says 0000, but the car took days to make.. Therefore what im saying is God designed what was to be designed in the time before physical time, then the Creation was Created miraculously in real time, think about the speed of light which is a real time occurrence..

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

This is a very good question that you ask here. Let's define this whole "day" thing and hopefully will help when we read the creation account. This flexible use of the word âdayâ to express units of time of varying length is clearly evident in the Genesis account of creation. Therein is set forth a week of six creative days followed by a seventh day of rest. The week assigned for observance by the Jews under the Law covenant given them by God was a miniature copy of that creative week. (Exodus 20:8-11) In the Scriptural record the account of each of the six creative days concludes with the statement: âAnd there came to be evening and there came to be morningâ a first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth day. (Genesis 1:5, 8, 13, 19, 23, 31) The seventh day, however, does not have this ending, indicating that this period, during which God has been resting from his creative works toward the earth, continued on. At Hebrews 4:1-10 the apostle Paul indicated that Godâs rest day was still continuing in his generation, and that was more than 4,000 years after that seventh-day rest period began. This makes it evident that each creative day, or work period, was at least thousands of years in length. As A Religious Encyclopaedia (Vol. I, p. 613) observes: âThe days of creation were creative days, stages in the process, but not days of twenty-four hours each.ââ"Edited by P. Schaff, 1894. The entire period of the six time units or creative âdaysâ dedicated to the preparation of planet Earth is summed up in one all-embracing âdayâ at Genesis 2:4: âThis is a history of the heavens and the earth in the time of their being created, in the day that Jehovah God made earth and heaven.â Manâs situation does not compare with that of the Creator, who does not reside within our solar system and who is not affected by its various cycles and orbits. Of God, who is from time indefinite to time indefinite, the psalmist says: âFor a thousand years are in your eyes but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch during the night.â (Psalm 90:2, 4) Correspondingly, the apostle Peter writes that âone day is with Jehovah as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day.â (2Peter 3:8) For man, a 1,000-year period represents some 365,242 individual time units of day and night, but to the Creator it can be just one unbroken time period in which he begins the carrying out of some purposeful activity and brings it on to its successful conclusion, much as a man begins a task in the morning and concludes it by the dayâs end. Jehovah is the Originator of our universe in which time, space, motion, mass, and energy have all been proved to be inescapably interrelated. He controls them all according to his purpose, and in dealing with his creatures on earth he makes definite time appointments for his own actions toward them, right down to the âday and hour.â (Matthew 24:36; Ga 4:4) He keeps such appointments with the utmost punctuality.

human 1000 years=1 day God created a set number of angels 30 billion?; 1/3 of all angels rebelled 10 billion?God turned the rebels into spiritual darkness (demons) and expelled them from heaven. there was a void in heaven of 10 billion open seats.God decided to create humans to replace the demons. God said that He will let demons trick people into following them, but when 10 billion seats in heaven are filled, God will send demons and those who follow demons to hell. demons dress in fake human skin and fly in ufo ships;pretend to be angels of light, ghosts, pagan gods, greys, ouija board movers.jigsaw from saw movie is not only gay but he's antichrist. when people will look at jigsaw, they will see many angels surrounding jigsaw, but in reality those are demons. the main demon is black with red eyes. antichrist is white with red eyes. if anyone worships jigsaw, they'll go to hell 100%. also, soon the world government will be giving mandatory small grey world passport. when people stretch their hand s to receive the small grey world passport, a small green electronic tattoo with sixes will be given by lasers. if anyone receives this tattoo, they'll go to hell 100%. people who kill themselves wind up in hell 100%. also, people who blaspheme the Holy Spirit, go to hell as well. God is one but decides to reveal Himself to the world in three distinct persons: as God the Father, as God the Son (Jesus Christ), and as God the Holy Spirit. now, let's switch to the ufo bases that the demons built. they are located on the moon, in lake baikal, underneath mariana trench (atlantis is here), and inside a fake mountain in tibet (buddhists consider this mountain holy, but as was mentioned, pagan gods are demons). there was also a time when 200 angels told God that they would fare better than humans if they had human bodies (angels and demons don't have bodies - they're just spirits). God told them that He could give them human bodies but if they mess up, He'll punish them severely. th ese 200 spirits agreed to take this deal. what happened was that when these 200 angels (aka anunaki in pagan beliefs) descended on a mountain in middle east, they saw beautiful female descendents of cain, and took them wives for themselves. these 200 anunaki had giants as kids. giants built the pyramids and other colossal monuments around the world. anunaki taught witchcraft, astrology, blood drinking, human sacrifice, abortion, art of war, etc. God became angry and punished the world for following anunaki. anunaki were imprisoned underneath a desert in middle east. 300 thousand giants and 700 thousand people who followed anunaki and other demons were drowned in world flood. only 8 people were saved in the flood. me and u are descendents of these 8 (noah with his wife, and their three sons with three daughters-in-law) who survived in an ark-ship. animals that knelt before noah went into the ark with noah. animals that didn't kneel were drowned. a bit later, nimrod (world lea der) and his wife semiramis (she was in charge of a brothel) created a one state pagan religion (sun-moon-bull-sex worship). nimrod was also in charge of building the tower of babel. this tower was built by masons who wanted to reach heaven and fight God and establish pagan religion in heaven. this was silly, to say the least. God burned the top third of this tower, sank the bottom third inside the earth, and changed the original language into 70 different languages. so, one third of builders killed each other because of misunderstanding, one third ran away, and one third were cursed to become apemen and elephantmen. silly atheists claim that we come from apes when in reality apemen were cursed masons. hindu religion has an elephantman deity. this is absurd. let's get to something even weirder. 80 foot dinosaurs live beneath the earth. they will soon come out through lakes and sinkholes. this is a punishment for spreading ideas of evolution. major climate change will follow. there won't be any clean water left. world government will hide food on purpose too. stores with food will be set up to laser people with the above-mentioned evil tattoo. it's better to die from hunger than receive this tattoo. now, let's go to the main message of christianity. God incarnated (took on human body) to die for our sins so that we can go to heaven. now why was this necessary? well, remember the 10 billion seats from before? yep, they're all empty because everyone went to hell. there were only 2 people that went to heaven (enoch and elijah). so, God didn't want all people to burn in hell, so He provided a cure for this - He died on the cross for our sins and went to hell to pick "believers in Him during their lives on earth" to take them to heaven. now most people go to hell too, but christians don't. why? because God said that if you believe in what He did for you on the cross, and feel sorry for your sins, and stop sinning, you'll go to heaven.

DANVILLE, Ky. -- So how much did the political environment change after last week's presidential debate as we head into tonight's VP showdown here in Kentucky? According to our new NBC/WSJ/Marist polls of three of the most important battleground states, it changed at the margins -- but not substantially. A week ago, right before the debate, our NBC/WSJ/Marist poll of Florida had President Obama with a one-point lead among likely voters, 47%-46%; now it is still one point, 48%-47%. In Ohio, Obama was ahead by eight points; now it is by six, 51%-45%. And in Virginia, Obama had a two-point edge last week, 48%-46%; now it is Romney by one, 48%-47%. So our poll shows some improvement for the GOP presidential nominee, but we seem to be back to where we were before the conventions: It's a very close race with Obama still enjoying a structural edge in the battleground states. And why was there only a little change in these surveys -- conducted Oct. 7-9 -- since last weekâs debat e? These numbers probably tell the story: More than 90% of the likely voters in these three states say they made up their minds BEFORE the debate. Here is a question to be asked: Is Romney over-performing in national polls and under-performing in the battlegrounds? Sure seems like it.
*** Other examples: Here are more examples of marginal change since the first debate, per our NBC/WSJ/Marist polls: Obama's favorable ratings remain above 50% in all three states among likely voters (51% in Ohio and Virginia and 52% in Florida), and his overall job-approval numbers among registered voters are near 50% (48% in Florida and Virginia and 47% in Ohio). Meanwhile, Romney saw his fav/unfav rating tick up in Florida and Virginia (to 49%-44%), but it still remains under water in Ohio (44%-50%). And brand-new New York Times/CBS/Quinnipiac polls also show a marginal improvement for Romney. In Colorado, itâs Romney 48% Obama 47% vs. Obama 48% Romney 47% from a month ago. But in Virginia, they have Obama ahead, 51-46% vs. what they had before, Obama 50% Romney 46%. And in Wisconsin, itâs Obama 50% Romney 47% vs. Obama 51% Romney 45%. Bottom line: There has been some battleground-state improvement for Romney, but not a significant amount. Essentiall y, weâre back to where things were before the conventions -- which is a close race that slightly favors the president.Â
*** A deep dive into Ohio: Our new NBC/WSJ/Marist poll also provides two explanations why Obama maintains his lead in the Buckeye State. One is early voting. According to the survey, nearly 1 in 5 respondents have already voted in Ohio, and Obama is winning them by a 63%-37% margin; among those who plan to vote on Election Day, Romney is leading, 52%-42%. What also helps to explain the presidentâs advantage is party ID. Last week, it was D+5 among likely voters; this week itâs D+11. But here is something else to chew on: 46% of likely voters in the survey describe themselves as conservative (when it was 35% in 2008, per the exit poll). So while the pollâs party ID in Ohio was more Democratic than last week, it was also much more conservative. Meantime, the NBC/WSJ/Marist poll of Virginia was more Republican.Â
*** Biden vs. Ryan: Todayâs main event, of course, is the Joe Biden-vs.-Paul Ryan debate here in Danville, KY. According to Pew, 40% expect Ryan to perform better in the debate, while 34% expect Biden to do better. Ryan also enjoys a stronger fav/unfav rating (44%-40%) than Biden does (39%-51%) in the survey. Our most recent national NBC/WSJ poll shows similar fav/unfav numbers: 37%-33% for Ryan and 37%-38% for Biden. As we wrote yesterday, Biden has more pressure on him going into the debate, but Ryan has the higher expectations, especially among base conservatives. And a question: Just how many will tune in to the debate? Weâre putting the over-under at 40 million. Remember, there are two MLB playoff games tonight, as well as Steelers-Titans NFL football game.Â
*** The skinny on tonightâs debate: Both Biden and Ryan will be seated. And moderator Martha Raddatz of ABC will ask questions built around nine topics (at 10 minutes per topic), and the questions will alternate between domestic and foreign policy. And that means Libya will come up. Hereâs how Bloomberg describes yesterdayâs congressional hearing on the topic: âRequests for additional security at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, before the Sept. 11 attack were rejected by the State Department because of a desire to convey ânormalization,â the Republican chairman of a House panel [Darrell Issa] said.â Yesterday was not a good day for the Obama administration, nor the Clinton State Department. We still donât know the basic answer to this question: Why, five days after the attack, did Susan Rice get briefed incorrectly? Obviously, some critics of the administration want to be believe the worst -- that it was on purpose. But do we really think the administration thought that story would hold? More troubling, it seems, was the intelligence failure, both on the front end (no warning) and on the backend (too long to figure out what happened). And it appears a lot of good old fashioned CYA â" a legacy the intelligence community has been trying to shake for a decade.
*** College man: Before tonightâs debate, President Obama holds a rally at the University of Miami (FL) at 3:25 pm ET. By our count, this is the presidentâs FIFTH-straight event at a college campus in the past week -- the others were at the University of Wisconsin (WI), George Mason University (VA), Cleveland State (OH), and Ohio State (OH). Meanwhile, Romney campaigns in Asheville, NC at 6:00 pm ET.
*** The Senate numbers: Lastly, here are the Senate numbers from our new NBC/WSJ/Marist polls: In Florida, itâs Bill Nelson 52%, Connie Mack 39%; in Ohio, itâs Sherrod Brown 52%, Josh Mandel 41%; and in Virginia, itâs Tim Kaine 47%, George Allen 46%.Â
