DENVER, Colo. â€" At a roaring rally inside a Denver airplane museum Monday night, Mitt Romney previewed the argument that he will make in his first debate with President Obama on Wednesday â€" urging supporters to convince undecided voters that “We can’t afford four more years like the last four years.”

Romney spoke under hot lights in a cavernous airplane hangar as supporters banged white and blue thunder sticks behind him on a tiered riser emblazoned with the word “JOBS” in huge blue and white letters.

Introduced  by two-time Superbowl champion quarterback John Elway of the hometown Broncos, Romney recalled childhood trips to Colorado with his parents. And, as he did in New Hampshire before the state’s January primary, he mentioned a favorite childhood book, “Men to Match My Mountains.”

“Perhaps we should change the title to ‘Men and Women to Match My Mountains,’ because right here, men and women have matched the mountains in Colorado, and they’ve matched the mountains in aircraft like that,” he said, gesturing to the fighter jets lining the hangar. He noted that he was speaking from the state that is the home of the Air Force Academy, NORAD and the conservative group Focus on the Family, which he said is “committed to preserving the foundation of America.”

“This is the home to great institutions of higher learning. It is also home to a pretty darn good football team,” he continued to cheers. “And one more thing. I think this is going to be the home of the place that elects the next president of the United States.”

Romney said he was looking forward to the three presidential debates â€" the first at the University of Denver â€" and told supporters to tune out people who are focused on “who is going to score the punches.”

“There’s going to be all the scoring of winning and losing,” he told the crowd. “In my view, it’s not so much winning and losing or even the people themselves, the president and myself. It’s about something bigger than that.… These debates are an opportunity for each of us to describe the pathway forward for America that we would choose.”

Counting all three debates, Romney said, that “conversation with the American people” will span almost an entire month. “We’ll get to describe our respective views, and I believe the people of Colorado will choose a better way forward for our country. We can’t afford four more years like the last four years.”

Romney has spent several months preparing for his debates with Obama. During the Democratic National Convention, he spent several days in Vermont doing mock debate sessions with Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio,  who also served as the stand-in for Obama back in 2008 during debate sessions with Republican nominee John McCain. 

During his four-hour flight from Massachusetts to Denver on Monday, Romney sat across from Portman on the plane and also huddled with top aides: senior advisors Beth Myers, Peter Flaherty and Ed Gillespie, as well as chief strategist Stuart Stevens and longtime friend and business colleague Bob White.

Romney’s standing has slipped recently in a series of swing state polls, putting more pressure on him to excel during the first debate. He told reporters Friday that the debates were important, but he said he hoped Americans would look beyond “the theatrics” and the “one-liners.”

“I think that, despite all of the interest in those types of matters, that the American people will listen carefully to the conversation that’s held over three debates and the fourth, with the vice presidential debate, and they’ll decide who can help their family, who will be able to get our economy going,” he said.

“They’ll make their decision based on what they believe is in the best interest of the country and their own family,” the former Massachusetts governor said. “And I expect to be able to describe that in a way people will understand, and if they do, I’ll get elected.”

Question by gaynell8405: How would I word a "No Pet Policy" with the acception of seeing eye dog for the blind? How do I add it in? I have the "No Pet" policy but I just have to add a clause or what? How do I do that and what should I say. Should I ask for note from doctor? I know I have to keep the no pet policy in tact and add something in saying "with the acception of seeing eye dogs for the blind or disabled"................... Please help!!!! Already covered by federal law....your no pet policy is sufficient...

The Americans With Disabilities Act requires that all therapy animals be permitted in public areas and housing. They are exempt from your policy. You may ask for documentation to prove that the animal is truely a certified therapy animal.

By law you have to allow all service animals, that are trained to assist people with a disability, and Emotional Support Animals that are prescribed by a doctor for an elderly person, or a person with a mental health condition. The laws already allow this and override any pet policies that may be in place. You can ask for proof of disability and proof that the dog is trained. You cannot charge a pet deposit for a service dog. If a tenant wishes to keep an Emotional Support Animal, they would have to provide a letter from their doctor verifying that, and make a request to you in writing. You can charge a pet deposit, and you may be able to have minimal say about the sort of animal they keep, providing it is resonable. If a person wishes to keep a dog as an emotional support animal, and the dog is trained, then it would be very very hard for you to refuse to allow it. http://www.bazelon.org/issues/housing/infosheets/fhinfosheet6.html Regardless of the above, the individual is always responsible for the dog or other animal, including keeping it contained, making sure it does not disturb others and cleaning up after it. Even totally blind people with guide dogs are taught how to pick up after their dogs. If you have a specific place that you would like them to relieve their dogs, then that is fine, the dogs do toilet on command, and the handler would normally be more than willing to take the dog there.

How about "Animals assisting disabled partners welcome." Legally you don't have to add a clause at all, a disabled handler will ask for a 'reasonable accomodation'. But as a disabled handler of a service dog, I would be relieved to read that during the application process. It is one less stress to worry about in securing an apartment. I know I will not have to argue my case with management. Please note that HUD has a broad defination of an 'assistance animal'. It includes both service animals specially trained in tasks to provide assistnace to a disabled handler both at home and in public places. These are the standard guide dogs, hearing dogs, signal and alert dogs for various disabilities that might be obvious or invisable. HUD also recognises animals called 'emotional support animals.' These animals provide comfort and companionship in the home for psychiatric disabilities as well as the elderly. Thry includes dogs or cats and another domesticated animals. It is approperiate to ask for a letter from a provider verifying that the individual is disabled and the animal will assist the tenant in coping with their disability. It is not approperiate to pry into the nature of the disability. This request is not essential to write out in your pet policy but would be discussed with the individual during the application process. Because an assistance animal is considered a medical device and not a pet, it is illegal to charge a 'pet deposit'. A tenant is liable for any damage the assistance animal caused at the end of the lease. The tenant is responsibe for the behavior of the assistance animal. There should not be excessive barking; the tenant can be asked to relieve the dog in a designated space and they must scoop all waste. The animal must not exibit agressive behavior. Extreme violations can be grounds for eviction. In my exeperience, a well behaved assistance animal can be an enjoyable addition to your community. My neighbors do enjoy my dog as she brings a smile to their faces. She never barks and according to them she is the "Best dog in the whole world."
