One of the Accent Signage shooting victims has died after being removed from life support.
Eric Rivers died overnight Wednesday, Oct. 10, according to a news release from his family. He was in critical condition for nearly two weeks at Hennepin County Medical Center after he was shot in the Sept. 27 workplace attack in Minneapolis' Bryn Mawr neighborhood.
Rivers' death is the seventh one related to the shooting.
A news release from Rivers' family members asked for privacy as they "deal with this tragedy."
Rivers, a manager at Accent Signage, had been in critical condition late Wednesday night, a company official said.
Eric Rivers' wife wrote on his CaringBridge website that "(I)t's painfully evident that the damage to his brain is severe and something that no one can recover from," according to a report from KMSP-TV.
Fired Accent employee Andrew Engeldinger killed six people before he turned the gun on himself. Two others survived the shooting and have been released from the hospital.
The family released a statement Thursday morning through the hospital:
"We are grateful for the incredible courage displayed by the men and women who responded to the emergency and the wonderful medical team at Hennepin County Medical Center, who cared for Eric. At this time, the family asks for privacy as we deal with this personal tragedy. We thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers."
