Question by ChEsTeR.tAyLoR: Can someone please explain what the "Scorched Earth Policy" is? I know the Russians used it to defeat Napolean, but what is it exactly? Best answer for Can someone please explain what the "Scorched Earth Policy" is?:

Answer by Cindy L
The Russian would retreat further but as they move back, they would burn everything. This left Napoleon with no resources (food, lodging etc). By the time Napoleon reached Moscow, which was also burned down by the Russians (they really didn't want to lose to the French), the harsh Russian winter had arrived. Napoleon turns back and by the time he reaches Europe, he only had about 10,000 men left. I believe he started with 400.000

destroying anything that the enemy could possibly use, building food, wells, etc, its so the enemy can get nothing from what is around them and have to depend on supplies from home, the romans also used this tactic very effectivly its a way of defeating the enemy not by fighting but by denying them food and shelter

Destroying anything that could be used by the enemy, that way they could retreat faster.

Armies in the past tended to live off the land, but even if they don't, they have to worry about their supply lines. Trading space for time is often a useful strategy, and if you leave nothing for the enemy to use in the land given up, you force them to stretch their logistics. Average commanders think tactics, good commanders think strategy, great commanders think logistics.

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood - 011 zurück zur Realität

DOVER, N.H. (AP) â€" A 19-year-old University of New Hampshire student who disappeared this week is dead, authorities said Saturday, and a man was charged with second-degree murder in the case.

Elizabeth ‘‘Lizzi’’ Marriott had attended a class Tuesday night and made plans to visit friends in Dover. Her cellphone was last used in Dover that night, according to fliers that family members posted, but authorities said her car was found several miles away in a parking lot on campus in Durham.

Authorities believe she is dead but have not found her body, Assistant Attorney General James Vara said Saturday at a news conference. He did not say how she died.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested and is in custody. Vara didn’t say whether the man knew Marriott or what led to his arrest. Vara said the investigation was continuing.

Authorities had been searching Peirce Island in Portsmouth, on the New Hampshire coast about 12 miles southeast of Dover, since Friday night.

Lizzi Marriott’s grandmother, Susan Marriott, was tending the phone at the Chester home where her granddaughter lives on Friday while other family members were out handing out fliers and searching for her.

She said the FBI and other investigators were at the house for much of the day interviewing family members.

‘‘She is a good student and she’s hard-working,’’ her grandmother said. ‘‘She is a person that doesn’t have a multitude of friends but she has good friends, a small group of good friends.’’
