There was no a shortage of one-liners and quips at Saturdayâs nightâs debate between Comedy Centralâs Jon Stewart and Fox News Channelâs Bill OâReilly. Below are ones that stood out most to us (Did we miss any? The comments section awaits.):
(Stringer/Reuters)
* âGive me back the $ 800 billion for the Iraq war and childrenâs television is on the house.â â" Stewart, during a discussion of cutting the subsidy for public TV, which Mitt Romney proposed at a debate last week.
* âAbout 20 percent of us are slackers. And itâs a growing industry.â â" OâReilly, in his opening remarks, when discussing Romneyâs â47 percentâ comment.Â
* âI would save Oprah. Sheâs worth about $ 100 billion.â â" OâReilly jokingly, when asked what famous person he would save, if the country was burning.Â
* âThen weâre both socialists.â â" Stewart, after OâReilly agreed that he too believes in Social Security.
*Â âI can see why Obama did badly in the debate. The altitude really is rough up here.â â" The 5-foot 6-inch Stewart, who was equipped with a lift at his podium to make him appear taller.Â
* âI want the folks to be more involved. Fifty percent of the people know nothing. âJersey Shoreâ people, you know these people; the âColbertâ watchers.â â" OâReilly, when discussing his desire for a more participatory democracy.
* âHereâs what I would say â" turns out Lincoln ainât running this year.â â" Stewart, when asked what would justify voting for President Obama in November.Â
