The seasonâs 16th tropical depression has developed east-northeast of the central Bahamas, but itâs future track is unclear. All the current forecast models show it avoiding Florida entirely.
The first advisory issued by the National Hurricane Center at 11 a.m. placed the center of the storm about 235 miles east-northeast of the central Bahamas with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph. Itâs nearly stationary, with slight southern movement at 1 mph.
Itâs forecast to accelerate but remain northeast of the Bahamas as it moves southwest. The hurricane center advisory said itâs expected to dissipate by Friday night.
Meanwhile, forecasters are watching a much larger disturbance about 350 miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands, which could gradually develop over the next couple days. Regardless, itâs expected to bring strong winds and heavy rainfall to the Lesser Antilles.
