Many viewers at home probably just learned something new about Paul Ryanâs personal life: His eldest daughter Liza is nicknamed âBean.â
He revealed that tidbit in response to a question about how his Catholic beliefs have shaped his views on abortion. He said he and his wife noticed that their first daughter looked like a bean during their first ultrasound. And the nickname has stuck.
It was another humanizing moment for a guy who wasnât terribly well known by the public before he was named to the ticket by Mitt Romney.
Biden, a fellow Catholic, responded to the same question by saying that he accepts the churchâs position on abortion âin my personal life.â Noting that other religions have different views, he added, âBut I refuse to impose that on others.â
Question by crow lover: How can we call ourselves a "great country" when we turn our deaf ears to places like Pine Ridge Reservation? I recently visited Pine Ridge and was appalled at the poverty and hopelessness of the Native Americans there. The joblessness rate is 95%....and it is literally miles and miles to any town of size. This is a national disgrace.I dont think most people know about this, but the Gov.does.No surprise. Best answer for How can we call ourselves a "great country" when we turn our deaf ears to places like Pine Ridge Reservation?:

We turn our heads away from a lot of things in dire need. It's just how things are. Sucks, I know. All you can do is try and help out as much as you can in anything you see fit!

It is a convenient tactic to blame victims for their own demise. That way, we don't have to think about ourselves being in that same situation for any reason. If you can blame someone for being poor, you can excuse your own prejudices and bigotries in favor of the time-honored maxim: "They made their bed, now they can lay in it." If, on the other hand, what happened to them could happen to you in a random act of happenstance, you might feel more compassion for your fellow human, and that might cost money, or worse, conscience.
