Former Senator George McGovern dies, aged 90 - NBCNews.com [ournewsa.blogspot.com]
Question by Neenie: "That's our policy" -- Do you hate this answer? I went to HOBBY LOBBY last night, and found a 2 cute things for my wedding. I had one coupon, and asked if I could have it on both items (they were a matching flower girl basket and a guest book). I was met with "No, that's our policy. One coupon per item per customer." It was a coupon you could print off the Internet that my sister happened to have on her. I find it ridiculous that I could go print off a million coupons and then walk through the store and check out a million times, but I can't save paper and gas and just make one trip with one coupon. I doubt I will buy anything for my wedding at HOBBY LOBBY now seeing that following "store policy" is more important to them than making a customer happy. FYI - I work in retail at a higher end department store, and my manager says to follow the spirit of the sale. If it means giving out an extra coupon to get another sale and make a customer happy -- do it. They say every time a customer is unhappy with service they will tell at least 6 other people. Studies have also shown that the fastest way to piss off a customer is to answer with "that's our policy." Best answer for "That's our policy" -- Do you hate this answer?:

Sounds more like "Snobby Lobby"

Well, that's fair! You asked them to break the rules, they said no. What's the problem?? I think you're lucky that they took the internet coupon! Around here (Houston) it's really hard to find ANY store that takes internet coupons. If it takes breaking the rules to make a customer happy, well, you're probably not the type of customer they prefer to have. What OTHER rules would you like to break???

You didn't go to a flea market. You want to go to a retail store, you will pay full retail price and coupons will only be used in the way they are intended to be used.

Don't be so harsh on the cashier. They are probably making an unrealistically low wage and are threatened with losing their job if they don't follow the procedures the way they were "instructed". Now if it was a member of management that said that, then I would rip their lips off and feed them to my pet canary.

Target is the same way... except a regular employee cant tell you that... a manager has to :/ believe me I use to work at the hell hole

I could certainly understand your complaint if it wasn't clearly on the coupon. If they failed to state the policy or "rules" of the coupon, they should have honored it. However, if you didn't read it, it's your fault for not respecting policy's set in place. Companies try hard to please the customer, it's cases like this that give stores a bad name for no reason.

Customer Service is important. But at least you weren't paying exorbitant HALLMARK prices. $ 5 for a card?

I hate that policy nonsense as well. Hobby Lobby is lousey anyway. They obviously care more about making one sale with a customer than numerous others.. I hope you told them you arent going to give them your buisness.

I'm finding there are many retailers that don't respect the customers. What's the big deal on honoring tha t coupon more than once if it's on line. Plus it was not like you were announcing it to the whole store. I understand policy but they should have gave you some options because you had a coupon that could have printed several times. I don't have an issue with the policy; I can't stand when retailers act like you can't go somewhere else.

Former Senator George McGovern, who lost a 1972 presidential bid to Richard Nixon in a historic landslide, died early Sunday, his family said in a statement.
The 90-year-old passed away at a hospice in Sioux Falls, SD.
Steve Hildebrand, a spokesman for the family, issued a statement to NBC News which read: "At approximately 5:15 am CT [6: 15 a.m. ET] this morning, our wonderful father, George McGovern passed away peacefully at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD, surrounded by our family and life-long friends.
"We are blessed to know that our father lived a long, successful and productive life advocating for the hungry, being a progressive voice for millions and fighting for peace.
"He continued giving speeches, writing and advising all the way up to and past his 90th birthday, which he celebrated this summer."
McGovern was a bomber pilot in World War II who became an early critic of the Vietnam War and a leader of the Democrats' liberal wing.  He was elected to his first of three Senate terms in 1962.
McGovern ran for president three times, also making a try for the nomination in 1968 and 1984.  Despite the 1972 Watergate break-in, Nixon won a second term by a huge landslide.
He challenged Nixon in 1972 on a platform opposing the war in Vietnam, but  suffered one of the most lopsided defeats in U.S. history, taking only 37.5 percent of the vote and carrying only Massachusetts and the District of Columbia.
Later as Nixon's presidency unraveled in the Watergate scandal, bumper stickers saying "Don't blame me, I'm from Massachusetts" and buttons saying "Don't blame me, I voted for McGovern" began to appear.Â
