A couple from Hong Kong has sued a U.S.-based college admissions consultant for failing to get their two sons into an Ivy League university as he had allegedly promised.
Gerald and Lily Chow say in their suit filed in U.S. District Court in Boston that they gave Mark Zimny more than $ 2 million to get their sons into an elite American university, preferably Harvard.
Zimny is a former Harvard professor who ran the education consultancy group IvyAdmit Consulting LLC.
The Boston Globe ( http://bo.st/Pl2ir9 ) reports that the Chows say they gave $ 2.2 million to Zimny, who said he had contacts at Harvard and would funnel donations from the Chows to elite colleges.
They charge Zimny with fraud and breach of contract. They want their money back.
Zimny denied the allegations in court papers.

Question by White: can we really call america a "free country" if people get arrested for something as petty as smoking weed? your personal feelings about marijuana are really irrelevant to this question, you can hate weed personally and still think people shouldn't be arrested for smoking it. but since so many people's lives have been turned upside down not by weed itself but rather by the illegality of weed, can we really consider america "free" with this (and many other things as well by the way) going on? Best answer for can we really call america a "free country" if people get arrested for something as petty as smoking weed?:

America's obviously not free and your government makes you believe democracy is the best government to use but it's not there are better alternatives that should be used.

There is only a drug war to employ more police officers, to employ more lawyers and to employ more judges. That's why you get arrested for petty crimes such as weed. God forbid we legalize and take it out of the hands of criminals and there organizations. But then again, anyone who works for the judicial system (cops, lawyers and politicians) are just as corrupt as the criminals who put the drugs on the street. The government allows drugs to enter the country then we arrest the people who use them. Doesn't sound like freedom to me.

I agree. And the taxation without representation sucks too.

Certainly, because every society has to have laws, and our society has decided that smoking weed is illegal. If you get that changed, then you won't have to worry about being arrested for smoking it.

You REALLY don't have any idea what "liberty" is, do you?
Answer by Paladin
if you don't like a law, you are free to try and change it
Answer by mlbjock_58
your confusion with the word free is the question america is" a nation of laws" and far from a "free society" wherein, certain behavior is regulated as a danger to others marijuana was seen as a gateway to 'hard drugs" and still is especially by many in law enforcement, california will vote on it's legality in november, but this may not be a good thing depending on the outcome but it moves us away from our concept of a constitutional republic govt, the people in ca. that our pushing for legalization are the same folks that have been pushing for legalization are the same from the 50-60's era pushed for the medical marijuana and since it's failure as prescribed by that law and a fed law that supersedes it are now pushing for pure legalization, which I predict will pass but then the federal law will water down it's effect, proponents have used the premise that states will collect voluminous sales tax on it's legal sale which by the way has failed where tried, such as in oregon

Im not against weed, but laws are laws, and you are free to take action to get them changed. Thats what they teach in school. If america were as free as you would like it to be, then I'll be over to your house to take all your crap tomorrow. Free is free isnt it? Who needs rules!!!!
